One of the most impressive beaches of Ithaca and Greece in general, with deep blue waters, uniquely white and coloured pebbles and a wild rocky landscape. Exceptionally long for an Ithacan beach, it offers the opportunity for isolation and tranquility. A canteen operates here, with umbrellas and beach beds. Access by private boat or by water-bus, from the port of Vathi. Alternatively you can take the path from Skinos. The path is rather steep uphill; however, the route is unique, with many different sceneries and an impressive view to the beach from the top. Rather difficult access. No natural shadow.
Small Gidaki
Afales - Platys Ammos
There are many beaches along the bay of Afales, which one can access only by boat. Most of them are covered in fine sand, a rare fact for the beaches of Ithaca. Attention should be paid to the sudden changes of the weather, since all beaches are exposed to winds.
Platys Ammos:
Large sandy beach, with pebbled areas and clear blue waters. It is considered one of the best beaches of Ithaca and the Ionian Sea. In the summer, and particularly in August, the beach is full of all types of boats, coming here from the adjacent islands.
Kouloumi, Amoudaki, Pontikos, Kathisma are other small and quiet beaches at the bay of Afales.
Agios Ioannis - Aspros Gialos
About 3 km away from Lefki. The road meets the main road in Lefki and leads to Agios Ioannis and the beach Aspros Gialos. Located on the west side of the island, across the island of Cephalonia. One of the most popular choices for a swim, due to its easy access both from the north and the south part of the island. The waters here are always cold and crystal clear. Along the same road, paths lead to several small sandy beaches, such as Mirtera and Koutoupi. Easy access. No natural shade.
Filiatro
To the south, taking the road behind the Cathedral of Vathi. Attracts many people, due to its amazing turquoise waters and white pebbles that are surrounded by an olive grove. Canteen, umbrellas, sea beds and wooden benches, showers and a lifeguard. Ideal for a calm swim, when it is windy in Vathi. Easy access. Natural shade under the olive trees.
Sarakiniko
Close to Filiatro, located on the right of the Filiatro bay. The Sarakiniko bay, with its green waters, is the secret of those who seek privacy and beautiful protected waters. The road reaches the beach, however, if you take the 2 minute path on the right of the beach, you will reach an even better, plus isolated, beach. Easy access. No natural shade.
Minimata
In the bay of Skinos and at a close distance from Vathi. Small beach with pebbles and sand and clear turquoise waters. Get there as early as possible as this beach is preferred by many. Natural shade early in the morning.
Piso Aetos
Diametrically opposite Aetos, on the southwest side of Ithaca. The small port of Piso Aetos is also located here, serving the transport of Ithaca and its connection with Cephalonia, Patras, Lefkas and Astakos. Easy access. Natural shade at certain points.
Polis
Below the village of Stavros, this beach is located at the bay of Polis, which is the anchorage for many local fishing boats. Deep blue waters and archeological interest, since at the bottom of the sea lay the ruins of an ancient city. The Homeric cave of Loizos, which has been destroyed by earthquakes, is located on the west side of the port. Excavations with several findings have been made here. Car parking, canteen and toilet facilities. Easy access. No natural shade.
Limenia
Near Frikes, in front of olive groves. Access by boat or from the path that begins in Frikes.
Marmakas
Big pebbled beach in front of eucalyptuses, which offers natural shade on various points. The road has been recently constructed, providing access to this secret place, both to those who own boats and those who don’t. Relatively easy access. Natural shade.
Kioni
The small beaches of the Kioni bay always attract summer visitors. At the end of the village, to the right, two pebbled beaches are connected with a path and are the favourite spots of “intellectuals”. The cemetery of the village is located next to one of the two. Relatively easy access. Natural shade.
Kritami
Located on the way after exiting Kioni to the south, after the cape of Ai Lias with its homonym church. Small beach with white pebbles and turquoise waters.
Kotsifi
Small attractive beach, below the monastery of Kathara, across from Vathi.
Kaminia
On the southern part of Ithaca, further than Sarakiniko and Filatro. Large quiet beach with pebbles and deep waters, suitable for isolation and privacy. The last part of the road is not paved and the landscape is wild and impressive. Rather easy access. No natural shade.
